ISC2 offers its entry-level cybersecurity certification entirely free, including the self-paced online training course and the certification exam. This is one of the most valuable free offers in cybersecurity education. ISC2 is the same organization behind the CISSP, widely considered the gold standard in the field.

CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service (SFS)

One of the most generous cybersecurity scholarship programs in the country. Covers full tuition, fees, and provides a stipend for living expenses at participating universities. In exchange, recipients commit to working in a government cybersecurity role for a period equal to the length of the scholarship. Multiple California universities participate in this program.

Coursera offers financial aid on most of its courses and professional certificates, including the Google Cybersecurity Professional Certificate. Tips for Finding and Applying for Cybersecurity Grants
- Start with free programs first. The ISC2 CC, SANS Cyber Aces, and CISA training require no applications and no waiting — you can start immediately.
- Check your local community college. Many have cybersecurity programs with low or waived tuition for California residents. Financial aid offices can help you find additional support.
- Apply for Coursera financial aid early. If you're interested in the Google Cybersecurity Certificate, submit your financial aid application as soon as possible — approval takes about two weeks.
- Look into employer-sponsored training. Many employers in Orange County and Riverside County offer tuition reimbursement or professional development budgets that can be used for cybersecurity certifications.
